well, christmas went quite well, beside the fact that everyone in my house seems to be passing a flu-plague around. we're so generous...my dad had it on christmas day, so my aunt kathy and i cooked turkey dinner. it was quite the learning experience for me; ive never even mashed potatoes before. i'm quite glad she happened to be there to save christmas.
i have the flu now, but i think it's pretty much finished with me. my illness seems to be milder than everyone else's; it's cos i eat a lot of vegetables, i just know it. maybe i'll be better tomorrow. that would be nice- then i could go shopping with the lovely gift cards i received from my dad before school starts. those old navy skinny jeans are within my grasp, and, along with my harmonica, i WILL be the next bob dylan!! just you wait.
as far as gifts go, i also received every cd i wanted, a nirvana dvd, reeds, a metronome/tuner and the new hannibal lecter book. i'm so cool.
oh yeah, my brothers got a wii, and it's the greatest thing evah.
well, tomorrow's christmas, and yesterday was eddie vedder birth snowflake day. december is a great month.
i have managed to make proper frosting for the first time EVER. it has been my goal for ever so long. no more glaze for me, ahahahahaha!
i wish there was snow. how can it be christmas when it's 7 degrees outside? and eddie vedder birth SNOWflake day? SNOW??? there's something wrong here.
well...it would seem as though certain among my loyal lj fans are unable to access my myspace profile (is my personal security REALLY that important? honestly?!). i guess this means i'm gonna have to get my arse into gear and update my two blogs on a regular basis, because i just can't leave you hanging. i apologize profusely to any who may have been offended in the least by my shameful infidelity to livejournal, my starter blog, but you have to understand- they had an eddie vedder background. what was i to do? one might go so far as to say i was...brainwashed? i have exams tomorrow. i'm supposed to be studying. five full days til eddie vedder birth snowflake day!!!
i'm thinking of switching over to myspace on a permanent basis...what a traitor am i. but myspace allows me to make use of my ever-so-wonderful eddie vedder background, and i'm just too lazy to maintain two blogs. yeah. excuses, i know. livejournal is the site i will forever remember as my introduction to blogging, and, if i can ever figure out how to get that edved background to work on lj (or, perhaps, even the grand rhps background i have yet to discover??), then maybe i'll come back. maybe. but for now, laziness prevails.
i have had a fun weekend so far..but i am now feeling its effects in my own weary way. myep. i'm also, at the moment, trying to teach myself to like lemon tea, since it's supposedly oh-so-wonderful for your vocal chords. it's like weird lemonade, so i suppose we'll get along okay.
so! on friday, i went shopping with my aunt kathy and found some very nice winter boots with purple embroidery (another thing i think i'll get along with). purple is great. i also found me a new plaid shirt (praise edved), a coolio band geek shirt that has probably become my most emo piece of clothing, and a skirt and shirt at old navy, for which i paid a total of $6.00. i love sales, especially at old navy. mm hmm.
then! beth, liia and steph come over to film the music video for beth's soon-to-be- top forty hit "séparez, s.v.p.". we ended up making a completely different movie about match making, but it is one of our better (or, rather, organized) productions, plus liia and beth dance in it. dancing is great.
we didn't end up getting to bed until something like 2:30, and, as i have said, i am only now feeling the effects, but friday was well worth it. oh yes.
i think i'm actually starting to like this lemon tea stuff. wow.
beth and i were just discussing how long it has been since we have updated our respective livejournals, so i said to myself, "adele, you should damn well write in that thing!". here we go.
just a few minutes ago, i was overcome by an incredible craving for hot chocolate. i went into the kitchen and put the usual amount of powdery stuff into a mug, but when i went to add the milk, i discovered we only had about half a cup left. i decided to make my drink anyway, and the result is this incredibly chocolatey stuff with big chunks of excess powder floating in it. there's also chocolate smeared all along the sides of the cup. bonus, or what?! i absolutely love it. have i mentioned i'm six?
for the past two days, we have had the worst sub ever, surpassing even miss brewer in her blandness. this takes skill, believe me. at least miss brewer giggled on occasion. i never thought i would look forward to mr. comeau's return with such longing. that guy may be virginal, but at least i'm not constantly wondering if he really knows where he is. why do we always get the crappy subs? why, eddie, why?
oh, yeah, happy eddie vedder day. i'm scraping out the bottom of my hot chocolate mug with a spoon. yayy.
well...this has been a busy one..and it isn't quite over...woot..
on monday my uncle scott came for dinner. our visit with him was short, but sweet, as i suspected it would be. he's a pretty cool person. myep.
tuesday, of course, was halloween...the greatest day evah!! beth and i decided at the last second to take our kurt and courtney costumes to the street and go candy begging with patrick, peter, liam and dj. we're so immature, but there's a reason little kids always have more fun. we came back to my place after a couple hours and viewed our awesomely awful trick-or-treating movie. the ninja mastah liam bit is definitely the highlight. mm hmm.
everyone but beth left at ten. she was picked up the next morning by her parents on their way to work, since it was...take your kid to work day!!! i went with my dear aunt kathy, who taught me to groom dogs. while i was with her, i also kind of figured out how to use an apple (computer, you twit) and make cream sauce for pasta. yessiree.
in the late afternoon/early evening time of day, my aunt had to drive scott to the airport, so she dropped me off at my home. i ate supper (yeah!) and headed over to randi's for band rehearsal. that wasn't extremely eventful, but on then way home, i saw a guy who looked just like liam from behind and i started yelling at him. i think i scared the poor boy. i was pretty embarassed when he turned around and was anyone but liam. it's crazy, he was the same heighth with curly hair and similar clothing and...yeah. i'm a losah.
so far, i have had a very fun long weekend. on friday, i went to halifax with dorothy, where we met up with beth. we walked, talked, ate indian food, and spent money. yayy!! those guys are great. i bought a couple of prints, one of which features an andy warhol soup can, and i have since had the oddest craving for tomato soup. perhaps i'll act on it shortly. i also bought a shirt from the kids section of old navy, which seems stupid, but that's what happens when you're short and like the colour purple. mm hmm.
then yesterday came along, and brought with it beth's super great halloween party, which was as good, or perhaps even better than last year's. moshing in the backyard was easily the best part, despite the fact that patrick almost killed me a few times. what a guy. then we went down to the scary barn, ran away from the scarier skunk inside the barn, and, upon returning to the safer part of the property, repeatedly catapulted liam into the air, using what i believe was a sleeping bag. it was dark, so i suppose i'll never know exactly what we used, unless, of course, beth tells me. after that, we went inside and played truth or dare, which only resulted in my arm getting kissed a few times. truth was slightly more productive, but i'm pretty sure everyone lied. yes, that was a great party. kudos to the hostess.
i viewed a list today that was sort of interesting. it revealed the names of the top earning dead celebrities. lucky them. since i haven't yet mastered this new technological wave, i haven't figured out how to post the dumb-looking slide show on this lovely journal of mine, but i figure typing out the names of the people in the odd drawings will have the same outcome..
Top-earning dead celebrities Posted 10/26/2006
By Louis Hau, Forbes.com (she wrote everything i posted in this entry..EVERYTHING)
13. Bob Marley 12. George Harrison 11. J.R.R. Tolkein 10. Johnny Cash 9. Marilyn Monroe 8. Ray Charles 7. Dr. Seuss 6. Andy Warhol 5. Albert Einstein 4. John Lennon 3.Charles M. Chulz (charlie brown never dies!!!) 2. Elvis Presley 1. Kurt Cobain
so..i guessed kurt cobain would be on there, but i never would have thought he'd be at the top of the list. that's pretty incredible, if you ask me. apparently, each of these guys has made at least $7 million in the past year, and they, collectively, have made about $247 million. rich guys. but here's the part that pissed me off, if you'll pardon my english..
But a one-off event can catapult a star onto the list. Or, in the case of Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain, to the top. While his music continues to sell, his debut atop the list is largely due to his widow, Courtney Love, who sold a 25% stake in his song catalog to publishing company Primary Wave for a reported $50 million. Thanks to this deal, audiences will be hearing much more of the angst-ridden rocker as his library graces the big and small screens. And, in a turn the rock star likely never imagined in his lifetime, his music may one day be used in advertising campaigns.
nooooooo!!! this is kurt cobain we're talking about here!!! the famous guy who hated being famous! first courtney love has him killed, and now this?! boys oh boys, that is not fair. how could kurt cobain advertise for anything? how could they do that?
and then there's more, in an article entirely dedicated to my favourite blonde..
Yet Cobain’s music may end up in the service of marketers after all. His widow, Courtney Love, has sold a 25% stake in Nirvana's song catalog to Primary Wave Music Publishing. And with Love's blessing, Primary Wave is exploring licensing opportunities for Cobain's music.
"We believe if we say yes to the right things, we can do both - make money and do the right thing for the catalog,'' says Love's manager Peter Asher.
Even before the Primary Wave deal earlier this year, Love and Asher made a couple of forays into licensing. Two versions of the Nirvana song "All Apologies" were used last year in an episode of the HBO drama Six Feet Under, and the band's song "Something In the Way" was used in the 2005 film Jarhead.
Next up, with the assistance of Primary Wave, is the hit CBS police drama CSI: Miami, which will prominently feature several Nirvana recordings in an episode scheduled to air in November. Primary Wave is also considering other licensing pacts leading up to the 20th anniversary of Sub Pop Records' 1989 release of Bleach, Nirvana's first album.
csi??? no! that show already brings me enough misery.. but, of course, there's more joy to come..
Primary Wave Chief Executive Lawrence Mestel, former chief operating officer and general manager of Virgin Records, says he expects most licensing deals for Nirvana songs will be with the producers of movies and TV shows. But he adds that Primary Wave will also consider doing advertising deals if the right partners emerge.
"You will never see Kurt Cobain's music in a fast-food hamburger advertisement – that won't ever happen,'' Mestel says. "We're looking at things that relate to cutting-edge technologies, products that are green and eco-friendly, products that Kurt would have liked to have his music represented by.
oh, well, thank edved for that. at least we won't have to associate kurt's brilliant songs with bic macs, but, really, what difference does it make if every little dance music fan suddenly knows all the words to turnaround, or even one of the more popular ones, like all apologies, because it was featured in an ad for something "cutting-edge" or "eco-friendly"? he wore the "corporate magazines still suck" shirt on the cover of rolling stone, dammit!!!
and then..
As it happens, the 37-year-old Bloom is an avid Nirvana fan who followed the band from its early days before it broke big nationally. After Bloom quickly warmed to the idea, he asked Primary Wave to make sure that all those with an interest in the deal - Geffen, Love, former Nirvana bandmates Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl and their managers - were all supportive of the concept.
how could they be supportive? why, dear friends, why? krist novoselic and dave grohl are two of my heroes, and now they've gone and done this. and how could any nirvana fan allow this to take place? i think liam should eat his babies...
i spent most of my day sitting around my dad's office. it was a bit dull, but, overall, i enjoyed myself. i finished my sciences humaines project, and, in doing so, managed to get a blotch of ink on my face (have to keep up appearances, after all). i wore this lovely little streak to lunch at east side mario's, and then to my appointment with the orthodontist (hate to disappoint, but i wasn't just hooking off). by the looks of things, i should have my braces around christmas time. woot.
my eddie vedder shirt is now here, for those who have not heard. it's a bit big, but it does say "i love eddie vedder", so why would i complain? edved is so great. yessiree.
...i was standing in a field, very wet, and very excited about the rolling stones taking the stage in just four hours. i believe alice cooper was playing about now, putting us under his spell and whatnot. sigh. what a day that was. the image of ronnie woods in his sou'wester is forever imprinted in my mind.
on the weekend i went shopping with beth, steph and liia, had a pride and predjudice viewing day with dorothy (mr. darcy never fails to please)and managed to alter two articles of clothing!!! my god, that was a girly weekend and a half. i had fun, though. i live with enough males, i need to have girl days once in awhile. myep..
i'm cooking impossible cheeseburger pie at the moment..two out of three of my brothers have asked me, in all seriousness, what's so impossible about it. herm.
goodness, i'm nearly whole..just one more johnny movie (which i've been told has been partially taped over by my birthday party) and that bizarre halloween thing (that one's not a sure-fire youtube classic as of yet) and my film catalogue will be complete..for now. aha. anyway, here's the original johnny talk show..we filmed it way back in july, before beth fled to the interesting world that is ontario. we had lots of fun making it, but i'm not entirely sure anyone else will understand the humour that goes on here. you'll just have to try..but not too hard. heh heh.
i know you loved it..you slags. hahaha. now that i think of it, i don't believe i ever posted the first edited johnny movie to this wonderful journal of mine. it's our artistic silent film. great, eh?
keep in mind that there's a piece missing: nigel's premiere; "the lost episode", if you will. hopefully, there are enough pieces left over after the birthday footage to make sense of this wonderful talk show mess.
before i go..there seems to be a problem with generally searching our videos on youtube. so far, only johnny and nigel shows up, but beth's on the case, and she's a genius. so there. tah.
well, they sent the grade nines on a field trip today, and i, of course, decided i'd rather not take part, so beth and i made use of this wonderful tuesday to create our youtube masterpiece "the origin of ferret girl and lipstick lady". it's pretty cool, i think. it took a really long time to make. for your viewing pleasure, here is a promo shot..
don't tell me, you've tasted blood and you want more..well, you'll have to wait because there was another stupid problem uploading the thing..but it will happen. oh yes, it will happen..
last night, i went to beth's and was taught, by my magical friend, the great skill that is mayonnaise making. beth did most of the work, but i helped her find the oil and i held down the button on the tiny blender until beth managed to get the big blending machine to work. we had a lot of trouble with that bugger, but as soon as we asked eddie vedder for help, the thing started to run. edved is so mighty.
later on, after an attempt at songwriting that resulted in the fantastic "kurt cobain death chord", beth and i took a stab at rocky horror with audience participation. we quickly discovered how awkward one can feel as she screams profane and vulgar things at a tv screen. in the end, we decided to just watch, and sing along when we felt it was necessary.
when we finished with rocky, it was cheese and cracker time (always exciting). then, we decided to get ready for bed, or rather get ready for the hour-or-so of chatting in the dark that all sleepovers seem to include.
i had to leave at 8:00 this morning, because i had rehearsal for the greatest play ever, but that was okay. i still had tons of fun!
also..this afternoon, i went to new minas with my fasha and my siblings. i was hoping to find an eddie vedderish wig for my halloween costume. you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you just might find you get what you need. i probably didn't NEED the arctic monkeys' cd, but i bought it anyway.
thanksgiving and manhunt..what a weekend. turkey day was fun, even though i'm not into turkey. i got to eat turnip and cake, and that's all that really matters. my grandmother, my aunt kathy, and my cousin, kaitlyn, came for dinner on sunday night. kait and i had tons of fun playing with gourds. i can't believe how incredibly entertaining those little plants can be.
monday was a busy day. it included sightseeing around nova scotia with luke, mo, and my dad, and the most wonderful manhunt game. our team didn't get to hide, but i tagged cody at one point and therefore feel as though i have triumphed. i also got to roll down hills with liia and beth. my favourite pants have been stained green, but, in the words of the great johnny, they're pretty grunge.
when the came ended, there was a bit too much flirting going on between a certain girl and most of the boys, and the fun started to recede very quickly. i hate when people can't contain their horniness. grarr. half the crowd (which, of course, included yours truly) finally went inside and ditched those silly people. we spent the rest of the evening watching videos on youtube. great way to pass the time.
it's official..my face is in fact recognizable (i was beginning to lose hope)...please, take note of my fabulous hairstyle, the tolerable celebrities i have been told i resemble, and enjoy..
...and what a fine one it was (in case any of my three or so readers didn't get the memo, my "aunt" beth got married yesterday). the bride is in her sixties, and i'm guessing that her new husband is about the same age. i just think it's so great that they've found each other at this point in their lives. everybody was so happy, especially beth. weddings are pretty fun. so are receptions. we arrived at the saraguay place (for rich folk) before anyone else (since we were travelling with my ever punctual fasha). from the time we walked through the door, hors d'oeuvres and drinks were dished out, and food was continually served throughout the evening up until the point when we were handed cake as we left. it was so good, though; i had this amazing stir-fried vegetable and rice dish. i like food. we sat with some interesting people, one of whom, i came to discover, is an rhps fanatic. how nice. beth and john also played a kissing game (yes, a kissing game) where various guests would come and be asked a question by the bride and groom. if this guest were to answer correctly, beth and john would kiss, and if they were incorrect, then the newlyweds were allowed to choose a person for the questioned to have to kiss. i was tempted to participate, but in the end, i decided against it. knowing my luck, i would be asked a question about automotives and be completely stumped. someone told me they were asking car questions to musicians (because john's a mechanic) and music questions to car people (since beth's a -- you guessed it!!-- musician). it was entertaining to observe from afar. so...we left around 9:30, before the dancing started (wil wasn't up to being my partner) and came home to my frantic dog, who had no idea why we had spent so much of the day away from him. he's a nice guy to come to.
today, as i sat, eating an apple and chatting away to good ol' beth on msn, my mind began to drift, as it often does, toward the subject of eddie vedder and the church we have created for him. suddenly, it hit me: our religion needs a holiday!!! as i thought it over, i realized that other religions honour their gods on multiple special days of the year, and so beth and i decided to do the same for dear, sweet edved. we have chosen to recognize the release dates of all pearl jam's studio albums, and the birth date of the great man himself. the following is the official list of the edved church's most wonderful days: February 3rd- Yield Day May 2nd- Pearl Jam Avocado Day (i get to watch beth eat avocados) May 16th- Binaural Day (i am not familiar with this album, but i think it should count) August 27th- No Code Ten Day (two of their best...released on the same day??) October 19th- Vs. Day November 12th- Riot Act Day December 23rd- Eddie Vedder Birth Snowflake Day (the greatest day)
funny how eddie vedder's birthday is so close to christmas..as beth pointed out, he looks enough like jesus, anyway..
